Next Gen Connection Hour with the Show-Me Institute

A Win, A Loss, and A Draw for Missouri
Join us for the Next Generation Connection Hour on June 9! Show-Me Institute experts will break down the outcomes of the 2026 Missouri legislative session and share their insights on what’s next for you, your families, and businesses.
This post-session recap will cover key policy areas, the new budget, and more, including:
- A WIN: The general assembly approved placing a constitutional amendment on the ballot to begin the process of phasing out the state income tax later this year. Elias Tsapelas will explain what will happen next if voters approve the amendment.
- A LOSS: Our scholars have written and testified frequently about the early literacy crisis in Missouri. Neither of the early literacy bills passed in the Senate. Avery Frank will discuss what can be done now to prevent the consistent decline in student performance in Missouri.
- A DRAW: David Stokes will review the House and Senate bills that proposed separate tax rates for different classes of property but failed to pass in both chambers. What should legislators do next year to address property tax reform for homeowners, businesses, and farmers?
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear more about the bills passed this session, and await the governor’s signature, the challenges the legislature will face next year, and the implications for Missouri families and taxpayers.
