Homeschooling in the Post-Dispatch

The Post-Dispatch reported in an article today that an estimated 6,000 children in St. Louis are being homeschooled. Homeschooling is an issue that really raises the ire of many left-leaning people, because parents who teach their children this way are not usually subject to state oversight or testing. But as the United States Supreme Court confirmed more than 80 years ago, however great an interest a state may have in ensuring its residents are well-educated, parents have a fundamental right to oversee and direct their own children’s educations. The Missouri General Assembly has wisely refrained from testing the boundaries of that vitally important liberty.
