Policy Researcher
The Show-Me Institute (“SMI”) seeks a Policy Researcher to help in the research, execution, analysis, and evaluation of public policies promoted by SMI. The Policy Researcher will work in cooperation with a Policy Analyst or such other person as designated by the CEO.

The Policy Researcher’s responsibilities will include:
•    Researching issues, as assigned, and creating timely policy content—such as policy briefs, legislative analysis, commentaries, blog posts, and quantitative analysis for publication
•    Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting Missouri data
•    Fact checking and critiquing the research of other organizations and government agencies
•    Tracking and reviewing legislative proposals
•    Assisting with and making presentations
•    Participating in media interviews
•    Such other tasks as may be assigned

Qualifications for the Policy Researcher role:
•    Bachelor of Arts degree in economics, public policy, or related field
•    Excellent writing ability
•    Strong analytical, research, and oral-communications skills
•    Ability to work well under deadline pressures
•    Excellent attention to detail
•    Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
•    Commitment to the principles of a free society, including limited government, free enterprise, and personal responsibility

Preferred qualifications for the Policy Researcher role:
•    Editing or reporting experience
•    An understanding of public finance and public policy issues in Missouri

Office Manager/Development Assistant

The Show-Me Institute seeks an Office Manager/Development Assistant to work in Kansas City. This is a part-time position paying $15 an hour.

The Office Manager/Development Assistant’s responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintain databases for donors and events to ensure requirements are met and generate reports as needed
  • Assist with tracking and fulfilling requirements for grants
  • Support fundraising activities, including but not limited to: making follow-up calls to donor and prospects, performing donor research, and assisting with donor events
  • Set up for all events: ensure checklist items are in order, prepare materials, and staff events
  • Assist with constituent contacts via phone call, e-mail and cultivation at events
  • Assist with various office management duties including answering the phone, handing inquiries and managing supplies
  • Undertake special projects as assigned

Qualifications for the Office Manager/Development Assistant:

  • Be passionate about and committed to the mission of the Show-Me Institute
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrated history of personal pride and self-accountability
  • Bachelor’s degree
