In a piece published on National Review Online today, Michael McShane casts a critical eye on a study that touts extraordinary benefits from two 1970's-era preschool programs for disadvantaged children. A small sample size, along with the prohibitively expensive per-pupil cost of the program studied, give us reason to be cautious before assuming that the study's findings could be replicated on a large scale.
