Sinquefield Comments on Income Tax Proposal
January 25, 2007

The following statement can be attributed to Rex Sinquefield, president of the Show-Me Institute:

“Governor Blunt recently announced his support for Speaker Jetton’s plan to eliminate the income tax on Social Security benefits. I applaud the proposal as a nice tax-cutting appetizer, but I’m eagerly looking forward to the main course: broad tax cuts for all Missouri taxpayers. The speaker’s plan would bring Missouri into parity with the vast majority of other states that have already exempted Social Security benefits from the income tax. But we must build on this initiative if we want to make Missouri truly competitive. Nine states already have no income tax. Those states are extremely attractive not just to retirees, but also to investors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders choosing where to locate their businesses. We need to make Missouri an attractive place, not only for retirement, but also as a place to do business. That will make Missouri a high-growth state and increase opportunities for everyone.”
